Studies have shown that people who monitor their home energy use can save 10-20 percent on their electric bill and reduce their carbon footprint. The brand new 99 cent iPhone App MeterRead can help you do just that! MeterRead eliminates the confusion of trying to decipher your home electricity meter by recording it for you on the iPhone. Just take a look at your home electric meter dials and match the readings to the App's MeterRead Graphic Pointers to get an accurate reading. After each meter reading, the app gives you valuable feedback on your energy use that can help you figure out how to reduce your monthly energy consumption... and your electric bill. You can instantly see the results of changes you make in your energy use, such as installing CFLs to get a real world data of just how much money and energy you're saving. With MeterRead, you can also have a completely accurate idea of what you're electric bill should look like... and you'll be able to check if the electric company is billing you correctly. It will cost you just 99 cents to save hundreds of dollars a year on your energy bill and reduce your home's carbon footprint. I like this application because it's informative. Just browse by category (ex: scented candles) and you're set.
reply to thisThank you Elizabeth Chambers! You are something special...
This app was my idea and coded by my father, Leonard G. Barton. Dad hand coded MacDraft back in 1984, the number one CAD program of 1984. It was the first program for the original Macintosh that allowed users to move a created object in 360 degrees.
The app is normally $2.99, but we are dropping the price down to $.99 for the first week of 2009 in your honor :)
The key to save energy, the planet and money with this app is learn from the feedback it provides which includes a 30 estimated electric use based on the last reading. I used it every day for two weeks and now I'm saving about $50/mo on my Power Bill (PG&E).
Now I just use it every time I take out the recycling bin and if I see that I'm running a little higher than I want to be I'll make some small changes... that's it.
It works so much better than I ever imagined. I'll probably save more money using this thing than what we'll make selling it. We are going to update the app soon to include gas meter readings, multiple meters, point to point usage and more!
Hopefully more people will give it a try. Either way, we are committed to make it better with future updates coming soon.
Thanks again Elizabeth!
And, thank you DAD!
You both ROCK!
Mark
